Retrouvailles.

 السلام عليكم

Retrouvailles (French, n.)
=the happiness of finding or meeting someone after a long time separation.

Oh my it felt ages since I wrote anything in this blog!

I definitely felt different.

I'm now in my last posting of third year, and in a few months I'll be in year 4! I bet time uses it's supersonic ability to fly around nowadays, so fast!

Being in clinical years definitely teach you a lot about life.

One thing popped in my mind. I remember while posted in pediatric ward, a mother decided to closed down her kedai makan just to take care of her sickly child. Where as in medical wards (for adult patients), a child could not help to take care of her sickly and ageing mother because no one can take care of the kedai makan. Such irony.

Happy Mothers' Day to all mothers out there!
We love you!

Atrophied.

السلام عليكم

Our muscle is made for movements. If we don't move for a period if time, the muscle will be wasted and  atrophied.

It was our third week of class and we are now divided into respective clinical postings. There are 4 postings, namely Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and  Paediatrics. I got Paeds for my first posting. I didn't saw it coming. I was aiming for IM first as I would like to start difficult as IM is know to be one of the hardest posting.

I have no idea how to inspect children. And they different anatomy and physiology, and the fact that they can't really express their thoughts were just so intimidating for me.

Paeds' first week of posting was more on more lectures and tutorials compare to other posting which had started their ward rounds and seeing patients.

Honestly, my first day of posting was a bit 'hambar' to compare to my friends. They would excitedly tell us our day when we would just smile and say, "Kitorang ada intro class je hari ni". And this persist for the whole week.

By the second day, I was so lost. I guess my energy level was meant for the wards and I was sitting at the back listening to lectures. I mean I should be grateful that I don't need to stand for 2 hours, right?

So I decided to join my friends at the O&G floor just to visit some patients to ignite the passion that is slowly thinning away.

First word: Waaaaahhh.

I felt like a kid in a candy shop.

There were so many women with distended tummy, all of them are future mommyyy.

The neighbouring ward was filled with mommies with their newborns. They were soooo adorable, pure and innocence :')

I got to clerk one patient who will be having her Lower Segmental Caesarian Section (LSCS) the next day. Usually they will undergo LSCS to prevent any complications during labour eg the baby is too big, or the mom is too small to push the baby.

Upon history taking, the mother (who is now is her second pregnancy) was very healthy. She had personally requested for the LSCS, even her first child. She might be afraid of the normal labour. Or she might think it is easier for the 'pantang' process as she is all alone with no mother to take care of her and that her husband is a policeman and will be very busy to take care of her.

Nevertheless, I got to palpate her distended abdomen and I can feel the baby's limbs! It was as if the baby was giving a hi 5! from the fetal world. There, there little ones. The world might be a cruel place to be, but hopefully your presence would make this world a better place to be :)

(Written on 8th September 2015)
Thank you dear friends,
who was there for me when I went 'meroyan' because I was so atrophied.
During my post-proexam holiday,
I actually went to Japan with a group of friends!
I'll save that story for later!
Wassalam :)

Unscatched.

  السلام عليكم
It’s been a while. Now, for a little update.

I’ve now completed my 2nd year of study; 3 more years to go.

Referring to my previous post, I was still in my 4th block of Year 2, the toughest block of all! Knowing my own minuscule effort, I didn’t think I can pass that block. It was too hard for me. I want to blame it to the curricular but I know I was the one who lack of focus in class. Sometimes when the lecture gets too blurry (and difficult you just wanna sit in the corner and weep), you just gave up on listening.

I should work harder, I admit. If I didn’t understand something, I should ask my friends who are more knowledgeable, better the lecturers themselves. There are also tons of helpful YouTube videos available that I could watch.

A key to success in med school is by REPEATING. Well, that’s what I’m lacking off. Me trying to complete a topic ONCE is a success by its own definition.

Due to lack of preparation, I was not ready to sit for exams. I was so nervous. I tried my best though. I fought hard. It feels I like a fought a lion with my bare hand. It wasn’t easy. The success rate was depressing.

For my first paper, I was the earliest to leave the exam hall. I cannot face the paper anymore. I just can’t do it no more. Outside, my shaking hands were ice cold and I was tachycardic.

In the ends, I called my mom and ask, “Ma, kalau Hanie fail block ni boleh tak?”. First time ever, I asked my Mom if I can fail an exam. When I judge my own performance, I know was failing it.

In Allah’s will, Alhamdulillah I pass block 4! It was very surprising!

I must say,
du’a during Ramadan is very mustajab.
Thank you all for the du'a.
Thank you Allah for this blessing :’)

Sulcus and gyrus.

السلام عليكم

I was trying to write down at least a post every month. Apparently, I missed my April post. I did have something in mind to be blurted out, and due to time constraints (and unclear reason why I was so lazy to type) I decided to just go on with life.

We human just plan. That's what we do. Sometimes we didn't plan anything, but things happen anyway. Allah is the BEST planner.

I just had my LAST and FINAL minitest yesterday. Phewww, what a relief is was over! Imagine we need to learn the nasty neuroanatomy, which basically means  we're learning about brain parts, it's blood supply, gyrus and sulcus. We suffered I tell you.

On second thought, it was fascinating to learn about our brain. HOw it is weigh about 2% of our total body weight, but consume 20% of our body energy. That's a lot! This shows out brain works the most from other organs.

And it is so unique. I just can't simply put it into words how amazing it is. I wish I was a brain who is efficient in multitasking, because we can't have enough of things to do huh?

Anyway, I have just re-watched The Princess Diaries after more than 10 years! It was out in 2001 and it is now 2015! *tua alert* I've forgot the last time I watched the movie. It was one of my favorite!

Re-watching it brings back the memory. It feels like someone return your lost luggage at the airport. All your fogs of worry fades away and a rush of endorphins runs in.

I remember being a nerdy, ugly duckling who feels like an outcast sometimes. As the fable continues, it happens out you were surround by the wrong ducks.

With the right circle of friends, you are free to be a nerd giving 'hambar' jokes and to suffer an ugly crying face. And you know your beautiful swans will always be there for you.

So girls, I'm sorry if I ever hurt you in any of my mean way. Hah, you don't read my blog anyway :P

Now I know why
people looks up at neurologists/neurosurgeon.
Ramadhan is very near! *excited*
Allahuma balighna Ramadhan

Feeling twenty-two ;)

السلام عليكم

Happy birthday to Hanie!

Let this be a yearly routine of writing down something on my birthday.

I just LOVE birthdays, especially mine :P I have this hobby of giving hints and reminding people that my birthday is coming.

Well, I don't expect a large scale birthday party. But I do hope I can share my excitement and contentment with the people around me.

I LOVE birthdays since my first birthday cake. When I was too small and my parents need to hold me in their arms and assist me on slicing the cake.

I don't know about you,
But I'm feeling twenty-two.
Gotta love Taylor for coming up with this song.

Gonna have a little ramble here.

Today is Saturday and while others are enjoying their weekend night out, us, the medical students are facing our textbooks and lecture notes. Also, our morning weekends will be spent in the library. Those are some of the things we sacrifice for the benefits of others.

That was preface.

I just ended my second week of third block. Another block to go and then it's our first professional exam. Each block will consist of 8 weeks of lecture and we'll be learning about different body systems each block. By the way, we have two professional exams that we need to sit. Once in second year, to assess whether we are competent enough to enter clinical years, and later in our fifth and final year, to confirm whether we can graduate with a MBBS scroll in our hands.

Second year's syllabus is much more fun compare to first year's. During second year is where we learn all the pathologic conditions, and where we can relate our knowledge from first year. I bet clinical years will be even more exciting as we are going to apply and witness everything right before our eyes.

Last block, we've learn about the Gatrointestinal System. One of the best block, personally speaking. We've got a bunch of surgeons came to teach us. They exposed us to the clinical settings and they were so freaking cool. I mean, I enjoyed their class very much.

They inspired me to become a surgeon. I imagine myself holding a scalpel, doing an incision to perform appendectomy. Or even doing a laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove inflamed gallbladder.

One day, I was sick (couldn't remember why). I couldn't helped it and decided to see the doc for some meds. Somehow I've blurted out I want to be a surgeon. He quickly shook his heads off and said, "Susah tu".

Excuse me doc, but nothing comes easy in life. Who are to judge my dream? You always have to work hard for it. I thought you know that better yourself. Things I should have said to him.

Whatever happens, we always need to work hard and SMART! May Allah grant our prayers, amin :)

Berangan tu percuma,
 realiti perlukan usaha.

02 January 2015

Fresh start; 2015.

السلام عليكم

Happy New Year!

I ponder, why do we actually need a new year? Regardless we are referring to the Masihi or Hijri calendar.

I guess people need that, how should I describe it, a starting-end point? A period of time? A fresh start?

And why do we need to have a resolution, every year? Most of us abandon their resolution by the 7th January anyway.

That's where HOPE comes in the sentence. People who have resolution, HOPE that something will turn out good, HOPE that things will be better, HOPE to be the best.

By having a resolution, we have an aim, a goal (gold?).

Anyway, that was just a random thought.

Done this Facebook year review and scanning through pictures that they randomly picked for me. I realized I did had a wonderful 2014. Lots of things happened in a year, that I've lost my time orientation.

I diagnosed myself of having a minor amnesia. This is a healthy sign because I tend to forget that the scar was a painful scratch and I became oblivious to the agonizing ache.

Why bother about the past, when future is as exciting for a bird to take its first flight. Why fret about the things you lack, when you are drowned in the blessing of our Creator. There is always something to be thankful of.

By the end of 2014, the East Coast was slap by unstoppable rain. Puddles became enraged and intensify their depth. Damp melancholy prevails. Also, a dear friend's father was about to have a CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting) and having to see her eyes are all wet while she thought of a father who was never ill.

I do somehow feel relieved having this all write down. The moment when all your neurons start sending it's neurotransmitter towards each other, as saying hello to an old friend whom they miss.

This is all acute inflammation.
A body response to harmful stimuli,
 short duration
 and ends with healing.

Does people still blogs?

السلام عليكم

Accidentally opened a tab of someone's blog and decided to write a post on my own blog instead.

Facing each day, there's always something that I feel I need to blog about. But always ever so reluctant to write it down. Or I tend to procrastinate with micro-blogging i.e Twitter-ing and double tapping pictures on Instagram. What a dull life.

I know I can do abundance more.

Currently preparing for my seminar,
Now in Second Year! (Yeay? Or noooooooooo?!)
First Professional Exam somewhen in July.

04 March 2014

4 months of silence.

My last post was on 5th November 2013. Well hello 2014.

Kononnya nak "post regularly to document this exhilarating journey". Don't get me wrong, life as a medical student is fun. Just the I didn't make time to write down the experience. Somehow menyesal tak post right after an event. I tend to miss out some details as time pass by :(

In a few hours I'm going to turn 21. TWENTY-ONE!

Terrified: Yes.  Excited: A little. Honestly I don't know what to expect on my birthday.

Far from home. End block exam is in a few days. Not done with studying. Barely sufficient knowledge to face the exam. (I mean both this life and afterlife 'exam')

They say people should mature with age like the wine. The older the wine is, the higher people bid for its price.

Dear Hanie Farhana, please grow up into a beneficial person for your family and ummah. Make your parents & family (who love you so dearly) proud. Enjoy the life. Don't afraid to make mistakes, but avoid repeating it. Gain as much knowledge as possible. Knowledge and health is the ultimate wealth.

Raw.

Assalamualaikum and greetings! Salam Awal Muharram 1435H :)

It had been almost 2 months since I became a medical students. 9th September 2013 will be a momentous date when we enrolled into Kulliyyah of Medicine, International Islamic University Malaysia.

The first month was quite challenging. During the Taaruf Week (also known as Orientation week), we were briefed by the Dean and Deputy Deans. Somehow we had some obscurity. Are we making a right decision of choosing medicine?! That thought only stayed for a split second. We continued on being excited about going into the medical museum and dissection room.

First week of classes were focus on briefings and introduction on each subjects we will learn soon. Also, there were anatomy classes where we learn about lower limbs with Dr. Ye Tun. Still excited of becoming a medical student, we really studied hard each nights and every free time. By the second week, all of us had gone 'pancit'.

The state of us being 'pancit' was quite hilarious hahaha.

We try to figure out a way out of this exhaustion. There was too much to revise. There were always pre-reading and post-reading. Then you need to focus in class. Thank God there was no homework!

By the third week we barely got our study rhythm. But somehow we survived. Trying really hard to survive fourth week. Fourth week was really my accidentally-doze-in-the-class week. I was really looking like a living dead. With dark circles around my eyes and looking rather lethargic.

Fifth week was the week we really eager to meet. Going back home on that weekend for Eidul Adha. Our holiday was supposed to be a short one that ends on Wednesday, with class  commence on Thursday. Surprisingly, a day before going back home, it was announced that our lecturers postponed our classes on Thursday and Friday in order to give us a one week long holiday. How cool is that?! (Do bear in mind that the longest holiday for the medical students are usually one week at the end of the block but we got it in the middle of the block!)

Posting this post via Blogger for Android. Thats explained a minor difference in the format of this post. Will try to post as frequent as possible. I feel that I need to document this exhilarating journey ;)

Sail.

السلام عليكم

I'm bulletproof, Nothing to lose,
Fire away, Fire away.
Ricochet, you take your aim,
Fire away, Fire away.
You shoot me down, but I won't fall
I am titanium.
You shoot me down, but I won't fall
I am titanium.

Currently listening to the piano cover. Ricochet means a shot or hit that rebounds off a surface. More; (HERE). Titanium is a chemical element which has low density and high strength. It can be as strong as some steels but 45% lighter. It can withstand corrosion against sea water, aqua regia and chlorine. Source: Wikipedia.

The song really builds up the confidence in you. There is this beats and rhythm that just ignites the fire inside you. It makes you feel stronger. I dunno. That is what I felt at times.

Currently, I don't have any title to put for the "Post title" section. Sometimes you don't plan to do it. Sometimes you don't plan to post anything in your blog. Sometimes you feel that there is a need to do it. But why? Why does it considered a NEED?

I revised myself. I asked ME. "Dear me, why did you make at personal blog at the first the place?". I guess at that time, blog was a hit. Everybody had a blog. And being a normal teenager surrounded with peer pressure, you are influenced to have one. It is a medium to let out what is inside you i.e. what you feel and what you think. However, how expressing yourselves could ease the inner burden, it can somehow lead to external punishment. People can be SOOOOOOOOOOO judgmental at times *rools eyes*

You are responsible of your own actions.

A blog also lets you to share some crucial tips of surviving the life. But is it surviving or living the life? There was this class where my lecturer drew out the line between surviving the life and living the life. When you want to survive a life that means that there are lots of hardship and you are tend to go beyond boundaries in order to be alive. An example is when you face a shipwreck, you are adrift and alone in the open sea. With confuse mind state and tummy to attend to, you need to be alive to be rescued or at least to be stranded on a lone, inhabited island. In order to survive, you'll try to fish. However, you have no bait. You search for a knife and scrape a layer of the skin of your thumb to make is a bait. This is how you survive the life. (this scene somehow reminds me of the movie 'Life of Pi')

When you try to survive the life you tend to do something that is against your will and what is written in the Quran. In order to survive the so-called glamorous world, you feel that to survive you need to uncover your aurah, to drink intoxicant drinks and to have an unmarried relationship between male and female.

You need to LIVE the LIFE. Allah had created the world for us, not vice versa;

Then We made you successors in the land after them so that We may observe how you will do. Quran, (10:14)

Quran is our map that leads us to Jannah. Enjoin the good and forbid the evil.

There were also times that you wrote something in your blog just to have a some cheap publicity. You feel that it is great to have lots of people reading your blog, to know what you did, what you ate, what you dressed, with whom you were and all that stuffs.

Somehow over this past few months, I felt that I am more mature. Everybody grows right? Last weekend I met my PKTR 2010 clan. I haven't seen them for ages! After a short chat, I felt that everybody changed. They weren't the same person I used to know 2 years ago. They had grown to be someone greater. They had been mold by the fantastic people around them, by the environment, by the  knowledge that is in their heart.

At some point, I have an urge to delete all of my previous posts when I was a younger, less immature person. But, you can't erase you past. That is what makes who you are today. Maybe, just maybe when I have the ample time I will read back all of my old post. Maybe to have a good laugh about it. Hahaha! It also need courage taw. A courage to discover back who you were. To remember the wound which now had became a visible scar.

At last,
I had an idea for the 'post title': SAIL.
Sail your boat.
There might be storm,
but it is a norm.
A rainbow stayed for awhile,
and that makes you smile.
Wassalam :)

Unggas.

السلام عليكم

Unggas ialah sejenis burung. Namun 'Unggas' yang saya maksudkan kali ini ialah subjek wajib ambil di UIAM. Sebenarnya eja dia UNGS, which stands for University General Studies. UNGS ni ada 3 part. UNGS 2030: The Islamic Worldview, UNGS 2040: Islamic Knowledge and Civilization and UNGS 2050: Ethics and Fiqh for Daily Life.

This is because for degree, we'll be having a 'block' system which means that the timetable will be pack and UNGS can't be squeezed. Kena la belajar ketiga-tiga UNGS ni during short semester in Gombak campus.

Kat Gombak ni aku dapat satu bilik dengan Syidah, kawan Karate aku. Kononnya, bila satu bilik dengan Syidah senang la nak pergi training ;D Satu bilik ada 4 compartment untuk 4 orang. Sorang satu compartment. Best la bilik dia. Luas. Tak macam kat CFS dulu. Meja study kat bawah, katil kat atas. Kena panjat tangga kalau nak tidur. Sangat kondusif sebab meja study besar suruh study, katil kat atas biar tak 'rajin' tidur huhuhu.

Best taw duduk kat Gombak ni. Tempatnya nyaman. Banyak pokok, tepi gunung. Banjaran Titiwangsa juga rasanya. Air Gombak sangat best. Sejuk gilaaaa! Very refreshing. Kalau nak berwuduk tu sangat best. Syukur Alhamdulillah :)

Kami students UNGS ni semua duduk kat Mahallah Safiyyah. Kelas pun dekat. Turun bukit sikit from Mahallah, lintas jalan, jalan sikit dah sampai kelas. Lagi dekat compare dgn daripada Mahallah Zainab to Mahallah Khadijah kat CFS dulu.

Kelas aku semua budak Medic. Ada 3-4 orang budak Nursing. Satu kelas about 40 orang.

Penat weh kelas 3 jam. First time, so tak biasa lagi. Kat CFS kan kelas leisure je. My first week here was quite stressful for me. Bayangkan kelas 2 kali sehari, satu kelas 3 jam, Sakit pinggang duduk lama-lama. Habis kelas petang pukul 5 PM, sampai bilik solat Asar semua, rehat kejap then dah nak kena prepare pergi training Karate pukul 6.30 PM. Awal sebab kami nak kena bergerak ke CFS PJ untuk training di sana. Best la sebab pergi ramai-ramai dengan Senior Karate semua. After training pulak selalu akan singgah burger stalls or Kafe Bilal untuk supper ;) Habis semua tu, tidur pukul 2AM.

First week memang terasa la kepenatan dia. Juggling banyak benda pun masa tu. Dengan nak prepare untuk "Seniors Are Back" semua. Oh, "Seniors Are Back" is our batch program with this year's Form 5 of our alma mater :) That week kebetulan kelas hari Khamis petang aku cancel. Aku pergi keluar lunch dengan Kelly kat Festival City. After that bantai BaskinRobbin's sampai dua scoops. Then we went back for Asar in UIA, visited Kelly's room at her Mahallah. Then waited for Tikah to come to Gombak. Yupp, Tikah came to Gombak and stayed with me. Thanks again for coming dear :* Anddd, later that night for dinner we had Burger Bakar yawww! Sodap giloss! Kelly and Tikah tak habis makan. However aku habis makan the whole special burger. Nampak tak tahap ke-stress-an aku  =.='

Aku pun tak taw kenapa aku stress sangat that week. Maybe I was tired and didn't had the ample time to rest. Sedangkan suatu hari nanti kalau aku jadi seorang doktor, banyak sangat ke rehat tu kan? Paling dekat pun nanti bila study kat Kuantan nanti, kosong sangat ke jadual tu? Sah-sah busy nanti. Dating dengan buku je selalu pun. I guess ada hikmah la kot kelas UNGS ni. Apart that I've learnt lots of Islamic knowledge,  how to look at the world at a different perspective, maybe aku takda la 'time shock' sangat bila masuk Kuantan nanti. Please manage your time wisely Hanieeeeee. Prioritize.

Kami budak UNGS ni pun untung sebab dapat merasa berpuasa kat Gombak. Kami dapat menyambut Ramadhan di semua campus i.e. Petaling Jaya (Past), Gombak (Now) and Kuantan (Soon). Tarawikh kat Masjid UIA pun sangat best. Dapat pengalaman solat yang diimamkan imam Arab. Dapat la feel macam kat Madinah or Mekah :) Jemaah kat sana pun very diverse. Bukan orang Melayu je. Ada Arabs, Africans, Indonesian, Thais and many more. Precious experience :)

Just some updates.
I just typed down
all the things that crossed my minds.
Berjurai
macam air kat Niagara Falls, ohh gitu.
Ramadhan Kareem everyone!
Beribadahlah sebanyak mungkin
 kerana sesungguhnya ibadah dibulan Ramadhan
 ini banya ganjarannya.
Semoga kita menjadi graduan
 Madrasah Ramadhan yang berjaya, InsyaAllah.
Wassalam :)
